A thirty-year-old Rome man was jailed Saturday on charges of robbery and false imprisonment.
A Trion man reported a stolen laptop to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. According to a report released on Monday, the victim said that his HP laptop was in his mother’s car and had come up missing. The complainant said that he was buying the laptop from Rent-A-Center and needed a police report to give the store. The incident is still under investigation.

MR. ROBERT L. “SONNY” REECE, age 81, of Congress Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 2, 2021, in a Rome hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Fort Payne, Alabama on March 10, 1940, He was a son of the late John Lee and Edith Odell Owens Reece. Sonny was an excellent painter by trade and an exceptional musician. He was a member of the United Christian Fellowship. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a brother, the late Billy Reece.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed the first case of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant in Georgia. The individual recently traveled from South Africa and developed mild symptoms and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. Genomic sequencing confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant. The individual is isolating at home and contact tracing is underway to identify close contacts at risk of infection. This is the first identified in-state case of Omicron. DPH was notified Dec. 3 of a Georgia resident currently in New Jersey who tested positive for the Omicron variant.
