A man is dead following a deputy-involved shooting early Tuesday morning in Gordon County. According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office: At about 1 a.m., the deputy attempted to stop an automobile near Resaca. The vehicle sped away and a pursuit ensued. It ended near a private residence in the Sugar Valley Community. As the deputy was attempting to arrest the man who’d fled, the deputy shot him. The deputy was uninjured. As is policy in such cases and at the request of the sheriff’s office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call to Rose Circle in Trion on Wednesday of last week concerning a woman yelling and disturbing the peace. When deputies arrived on the scene the heard twenty-four-year-old Tanzania Glenn yelling about her vehicle that was in Gary’s Towing’s impound lot. Glenn said that she wasn’t going to pay her tow bill and that she would be leaving with the vehicle. Deputies spoke with the owner of the towing company, Gary Rape, who said that he had reduced the woman’s tow bill and storage fee down from $3,400 to $500 to try to help her out. The woman continued to yell and say that she wouldn’t pay anything and demanded her car. Glenn was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and was transported to the Chattooga County Jail.
On Thursday morning of last week, the manager of Bojangles in Summerville called the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office about a theft. The manager showed a responding deputy video footage of an employee, identified in the sheriff’s office report as “Ms. Adams”, taking money from customers and sticking it in her pocket instead of putting it in the register. The manager said that she believed that Ms. Adams had done the same thing in the past. That day, the suspect had taken $23.80 and put it in her pocket, instead of putting the money in the cash register. The deputy said that the sheriff’s office would be taking out a warrant for Ms. Adams’ arrest.
On Monday evening, Sheriff Mark Schrader had to evacuate the Chattooga County Jail due to a gas leak.

Georgia gas prices rose at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.25 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 19 cents more than a week ago, 52 cents more than a month ago, and 12 cents more than this time last year. It now costs $48.75 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying almost $2.00 more to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.
Last Friday night, Summerville Police received a call about the driver of a vehicle pointing a gun at a pedestrian on Martin Street.
