Large Fire At Mount Vernon Mills On Saturday

A fire at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion was reported shortly after 7 AM on Saturday morning.  The Trion Fire Department responded to the scene.  Trion Fire Officials then called for mutual aid.  Fire fighters from all over Chattooga County responded, along with firefighters from surrounding counties.  While there are still many details not known, WZQZ News has learned that the fire started somewhere in the spinning room area of the mill.  Early reports indicated that there were no injuries and all workers were unharmed. A lot of water damage is being reported.  WZQZ News will have more information as it becomes available.

Sloppy Floyd Halloween Hayrides Expected To Resume Today

The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park made the difficult decision on Saturday to cancel the Haunted Hayrides because of the weather, but there’s good news!  You can still take your family out for a fun Halloween activity today at our local state park.  The Friends of Sloppy Floyd say that the weather looks good for today and that the hayrides will resume.  The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for kids.  Children 4 and under are free.  There is a $5 parking pass.  Also, the Town of Lyerly made the decision to move their Trunk or Treat from Saturday to Sunday evening.  Activities at the park in Lyerly will include trunk-or-treating, free hot dogs, popcorn and more.  Activities will get underway at 5 PM in Lyerly.

Large Fire At Mount Vernon Mills In Trion

A large fire is being reported at Mount Vernon Mill in Trion. The Trion Fire Department has requested mutual aid from surrounding fire departments. The call came in sometime around 7 AM this morning. Tri-State Mutual Aid has responded with around 50-60 firefighters from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee on the scene. WZQZ News will have more information as it becomes available.

Lyerly Moves Halloween Trunk-or-Treat To Sunday Evening

Due to the forecast of rain, the Town of Lyerly has decided to move their Halloween activities to Sunday.  Originally, the town had planned to hold the Trunk-or-Treat event at Angus McLeod Park on Saturday.  The town made the announcement late Friday, that the event would be moved to Halloween evening starting at 6 PM.  The town will provide free hot dogs, hot chocolate and popcorn.

Friday Night Football Recap

Both local high schools were at home for Friday night football last night with the Chattooga Indians hosting Pepperell and the Trion Bulldogs hosting Mt. Zion.  It was a good win for the Bulldogs and, despite an early lead, a disappointing loss for the Chattooga Indians.
