The DeKalb County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of their own. Pistol Permit Clerk, Melissa Wilkerson passed away this week due to COVID-19.
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) will be on high-visibility during this 78-hour Labor Day holiday weekend encouraging motorists to practice safe driving habits as they travel throughout the state. The holiday travel period began yesterday evening at 6 p.m. and ends Monday, Sept. 6, at 11:59 p.m.
An area resident contacted WZQZ News this week about a scammer that was harassing them about a utility bill. The Gore-area resident said that the scammer had called repeatedly, demanding money for a supposed over-due North Georgia EMC power bill. The resident said that they knew it was a scam when the scammer wanted the payment to be made with a pre-paid debit card purchased from an area retailer.
Many school systems across the state of Georgia made the decision to close on Friday and give students a four-day weekend over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend.

MRS. ANNIE HENDRIX McCARY, age 101, of Bethel Church Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Her residence.
Neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff Jeff Shaver received his 40-year service pin for his faithful service to the law enforcement profession on Monday, August 23rd. Chief Deputy Josh Summerford had the honor of presenting Sheriff Shaver with the award during the meeting of the Cherokee County Commission.
