In an open letter released by the Georgia Department of Education Tuesday, State School Superintendent Richard Woods shared his own experience with a breakthrough COVID-19 case. Woods, who had been vaccinated, said he tested positive for the virus prior to the start of the school year. His symptoms were severe, the superintendent said, and he ended up in the hospital. His doctors believe the vaccine helped keep him alive.

MRS. DOROTHY BEATRICE DOOLEY PLEDGER, age 83, of Grand Eight Lane, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning, August 26, 2021, at her residence. A native of Trion, Georgia, She was born to the late Rev. Wilburn and Helen Moore Dooley on January 18, 1938. Mrs. Pledger was retired secretary for Pledger Automotive, a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church, and in addition to Parents was preceded in death by a daughter the late Reda Gail Pledger.
