On Thursday, former Georgia Insurance Commissioner Jim Beck was convicted of fraud and money laundering in a scheme against an insurer that he managed.
MR. FREDDY L. BROWN, age 78, of Congress Street-Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at his residence following an illness. A Chattooga County native, He was born to the late Willie M. and Sara Mae Sparks Brown on January 29, 1943. Mr. Brown was Baptist by Faith and was Supervisor (retired) for Marglen Mill. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a son, the late Joshua Lee Brown and siblings, Doris Jean White, Willie Sue Sizemore, and Benny Seals Brown.

Severe thunderstorms can be life-threatening, but not all severe storms are the same. Hazardous conditions range from tornadoes, large hail storms, and widespread straight-line winds called derechoes, to cloud-to-ground lightning and flash flooding. Starting July 28, the National Weather Service will better convey the severity and potential impacts from thunderstorm winds and hail by adding a “damage threat” tag to Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, similar to our Tornado and Flash Flood Warnings.
WZQZ News announced Thursday morning that Showa – Best Glove in Menlo was laying off a large number of workers. Thursday afternoon, Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry responded to the news.
In a press release, the commissioner said he was “shocked and disappointed” to hear the news from Showa.
Showa informed the commissioner of their decision to cease production at the Menlo facility with the following statement:
WZQZ News has learned that Showa-Best Glove is laying off workers at their Menlo facility. The affected workers have been notified by management about the impending layoffs.
