Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black has appointed Dr. Janemarie Hennebelle as Georgia’s next State Veterinarian, succeeding Dr. Robert Cobb, who retired in June 2021. Hennebelle has served as Assistant State Veterinarian since September of 2016.
A Chattooga County man was arrested and booked into the Cherokee County, Alabama jail this week on drug charges.
The Coca-Cola Foundation granted the Technical College System of Georgia Foundation (TCSGF) $100,000 to support student retention throughout Georgia’s 22 technical colleges. This generous grant will provide needs-based financial assistance through TCSGF’s Last Mile Fund to students who may have otherwise discontinued their education due to financial constraints. The Coca-Cola Foundation Grant helps ensure more students remain in college to complete their program and earn a postsecondary credential.

MRS. CHARLOTTE POLLARD PERRY – Age 78, of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, July 9, 2021. She was born to the union of the late Mr. Samuel Pollard, Sr. and Mrs. Susie Ludy Pollard on July 21, 1942. She was preceded in death by both parents, sister, Ms. Cozette Rittenberry, and brother, Samuel L. Pollard, Jr. She was a member of Hemphill AME Zion Church in Summerville, Georgia.

There was a single-vehicle accident on Martin Dairy Road in the early morning hours of Tuesday. According to sheriff’s deputies, the driver left the roadway and crashed through a barbed-wire fence and came to a stop in a pasture. There were no injuries reported. The driver was reportedly driving too fast for road conditions. We will have more information on the accident when a report is released from law enforcement.
