Chattooga Young Farmers Pesticide Class

The Chattooga County Young Farmers will host a Pesticide Re-certification class coming up on Thursday of this week, January 12.  Wade Hutcheson, with the Walker County Extension Office will be teaching the class.  The class will be held at 7 PM at the Chattooga County Ag Center, located on Middle School Drive, just off Highway 100 in Summerville.  The focus of the class will be weed management and sprayer calibration.  Today is the deadline to register for the class.  For more information, contact Lauren Jarrett with the Chattooga County Young Farmers.

Attorney General Joins National Opioid Settlement

Attorney General Chris Carr has announced that the State of Georgia has joined national settlements with CVS, Walgreens, Teva and Allergan to resolve allegations that the companies contributed to the opioid crisis. By simply joining the settlements, Georgia stands to receive more than $181 million in total base payments to help fund critical treatment, prevention, reduction and recovery services.

Georgia Rural Hospital Group Wants To Keep Certificates Of Need

The association of Georgia’s community hospitals says it is prepared to fight a push to repeal the state’s certificate of need requirement. Last month, Americans for Prosperity-Georgia announced it plans to push state lawmakers to repeal the state’s CON mandate, saying the requirement limits access to quality care and drives up prices.  Newly elected State Senator Colton Moore, who represents Northwest Georgia in the Georgia Senate is one of the leading voices calling for the repeal of certificates of need.

Alabama Authorities Looking For Wanted Sex Offender

Authorities in neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama are looking for a wanted sex offender.  Thirty-nine-year-old Jesse Lee Trotter of Cedar Bluff is wanted for failing to register as a sex offender.  Trotter was convicted of child molestation in 1998.  Anyone with information as to Trotter’s whereabouts should contact the Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff’s Department at 256-927-9999.
