The Chattooga Bass Fishing Team participated in GHSA State Championships over the past weekend. The tournament took place at Lake Lanier. Tribe anglers Jackson Ekroat and Landon Stephens placed 29th out of 66 boats. There were over 55 high school teams participating in the tournament. WZQZ Radio is proud to be one of the many businesses that helped sponsor the Chattooga Bass Fishing Team this year.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed legislation Friday to limit how much local governments in Georgia can cut funding for police agencies.
A reminder for commuters in Walker County: Georgia Highway 95 will be closed this week for thru traffic due to construction work by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Highway 95 runs between Highway 151 in the Naomi area across to Highway 27 at Rock Spring. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says, “Locals should be able to use Clyde Byrd Road and Tarvin Road. The work will be in the 3600 block of Hwy 95.” The DOT says the work will take most of the week to complete, depending on weather.
Local residents are reporting that someone is calling and saying they are from Peach State Credit Union and are then asking for personal information.
WZQZ has received messages from area residents who say that the caller identifies themselves as being from the credit union in Trion and then asks the intended victim for their credit union account number and the last four digits of their social security number.
Remember if anyone contacts you by telephone or email and asks for this type of information, it is a scam.
Peach State Credit Union says, “Never provide your personal information in response to an unsolicited request. Neither Peach State nor any of our third party providers (for example VISA®) will ever ask a member to disclose account or other personal information via email. If this happens to you, please call us or email the details to Peach State as soon as possible.”
The Summerville City Council will hold their regular monthly meeting coming up this evening at 5:30 PM at the Council Meeting Room at Summerville City Hall. The council is expected to have the first reading of the “Broadband Ready Ordinance” and to approve a “walking gas leak survey.” The council is also expected to approve a $11,350.24 payment to Patty Construction for gravel, crushed rock and chert.
