The City of Summerville issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon concerning legal action in Federal Court.  In the city’s prepared statement the City of Summerville says that they do not believe that “Summerville’s water customers should be burdened with the added costs of construction of filtration systems and added operational costs that are incurred in making the water safe.”

The city’s statement goes on to say that they are NOT making any legal claims against the Town of Trion, Mount Vernon Mills or any landowners where dangerous chemicals might have been spread that wound up in the city’s water supply at Raccoon Creek.  The city also says that they have retained legal council and will not be making further statements on the matter.  You can see the complete statement below:

Local restaurants are having a hard time finding enough employees.  That problem, combined with a  medical procedure has prompted the temporary closing of one local restaurant.  Henry’s BBQ in Summerville announced on social media this week that the restaurant would close until further notice.  Owner Darlene Henry posted, ” Please forgive us and watch Facebook for a reopening date. We are unsure at this time what day we will be back. Thank you for your business, we truly appreciate each and every one of our customers.”

The signs in downtown Summerville diverting commercial traffic off Highway 48 will be in place a few more weeks, but work has started on repairing Highway 117 between Mentone and Valley Head, Alabama.

A Summerville woman was arrested over the weekend in Tennessee on drug possession charges.  According to docket records from the Hamilton County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office, thirty-five-year-old Laura Irene Elsayed Mohamed of a Maplewood Apartments address was arrested by Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputies after suspected drugs were found in her possession. Mohamed was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Georgia gas prices have held steady for the past month. The state average is $2.70 per gallon.

The Teloga Fire Department recently announced the retirement of Fire Chief Sammy Lee and Assistant Fire Chief Tony Wright.  According to a release by the department, the two will continue to serve on the board of the Teloga Fire Department.  Both Lee and Wright were founding members of the Teloga Fire Department and have been serving the community since 1987.  You can read the complete statement below:
