The U.S. Small Business Administration launched a new round of Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) assistance – called Supplemental Targeted Advances – on April 22, 2021 that will provide $5 billion in additional assistance to 1 million small businesses and nonprofit organizations that have been most severely affected by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Supplemental Targeted Advance program is the latest SBA relief program to launch as part of the American Rescue Plan Act on March 11, 2021.

WHAT: Weather permitting, GDOT Maintenance crews will repair a portion of I-75 that will close the two right northbound lanes. Motorists should be prepared for significant delays.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 27 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: The two right lanes of I-75 North will be closed between mileposts 298.5 and 299.5.

What a difference a year makes.  Last year, in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses were closing and unemployment was increasing.  This year, the month of March saw unemployment fall to a historic low in Northwest Georgia.  The region’s unemployment rate stands at a very low 3.3%.

Beginning this Saturday, May 1, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) open burning ban will be in effect for 54 Georgia counties.  The open burning ban has been in place during the summer ozone season since 2005.

The Trion City School System released its weekly COVID report on Friday of last week.  According to the report, there were no active COVID cases in the Trion City School System.

The Chattooga County School System released its weekly COVID report last Friday.  According to the report, there was one active case at Lyerly Elementary School.  There were a total of fifteen students in quarantine throughout the school system.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) today recommended that the United States should resume Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccinations. Pending the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) formal acceptance of the decision, the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) will again offer J&J vaccine to Georgians aged 18 and older.  However, there is no timeline yet for when administration will begin again.
