Twenty-six Georgia 4-H’ers participated in the State Forestry Field Day for program year 2021 on Sept. 19 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia. Throughout the afternoon event, participants adhered to COVID-19 prevention measures as guided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader has put out a warning to residents about a social security phone-scam. The sheriff says that many county residents have reported getting phone calls from people claiming to be with the Social Security Administration and then asking for private information from residents.

The Chattooga County School system released their weekly COVID-19 Report on Friday afternoon. According to the report, there is one case at Chattooga High School and three cases at Menlo Elementary School. Sixty-six students are currently quarantined, according to the report which covers the dates from September 19th – September 25th.
After a couple of weeks with no reports of COVID-19 at Trion City Schools, the numbers changed this past week. On Friday afternoon, Trion Schools released their weekly COVID-19 report. According to the report there is one positive case at Trion Elementary School and one case at Trion High School, making two the total district wide. You can see the report below:
MR. JOHNNY RICHARD WATKINS, JR. – AGE 72 – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020. He was born on February 28, 1948 in Summerville, Georgia to the late Johnny Richard Watkins, Sr. and Kathryn Black Watkins. He was preceded by his sister, Kathryn Theresa Watkins. Richard was a member of the West 5th Street Church of Christ.
Survivors are his loving brother, James (Freda) Watkins; four children, two sons, Jason (Kerinia) Watkins, Johnny Richard (Anna) Watkins, III; two daughters, Janel Watkins, and Laura Watkins; grandchildren; aunts, Eva Byron, Annie Black; nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives, church family, and friends.
Graveside Service and Interment will be on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 2:00 P. M. at the Summerville Cemetery with Brother John Lewis and other Ministers officiating. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
