A preliminary injunction by a U.S. District Court Judge in California has extended the 2020 Census data collection period from September 30 until the end of October.
Chattooga County murder suspect Steven James Mauldin of Trion was arrested in August of last year after he was accused of murdering two people and shooting another who subsequently passed away. The murders took place in the Holland area. After a multi-state, multi-jurisdictional manhunt, Mauldin was booked into the Chattooga County jail to face the charges.

The North Georgia Cruisers held a BBQ fundraiser on Friday. The organization is known for their generosity at Christmastime in helping underprivileged children around Chattooga County with food and Christmas toys and gifts. The BBQ fundraiser was held to raise money for those gifts at Christmas. Not only did the Cruisers sell out of BBQ, an anonymous donor pad to have BBQ lunches delivered to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office as well. The Cruisers wanted to express their appreciation to the community for their ongoing support and for the successful fundraiser on Friday.
Gov. Brian Kemp said he feels good about Georgia’s current status amid the pandemic, and he has an optimistic outlook as the temperatures cool and flu season begins in earnest.
With many students returning to school remotely this fall, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) urges added caution when using and charging laptops and other digital devices at home. According to NFPA’s most recent electrical fires report, an estimated average of 900 computer or computer equipment fires occurred in U.S. homes each year between 2014 and 2018, resulting in 50 civilian injuries and $50 million in direct property damage.
