The joint-interview between the school superintendents was held at the office of Supt. Jared Hosmer. Hosmer was joined by Supt. Phil Williams to discuss the upcoming vote on the one-cent special local option sales tax for education and what the measure means for Chattooga County property owners. The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced this week an April preliminary unemployment rate of 13.3 percent. April’s numbers represent the highest one-month recorded increase and also the highest total unemployment on record. Georgia’s April 2020 number of unemployed is more than 80,000 higher than the height of the Great Recession of 2009-2010.
The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) approved Georgia Power’s plan to reduce its fuel rates by 17.2 percent and total billings by approximately $740 million over a two-year period. This reduction will lower the total monthly bill by approximately $5.32 for the typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month beginning June 1, 2020.
