To ease potential Memorial Day weekend traffic congestion, the Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending construction-related lane closures from noon Friday, May 22, 2020 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020 on Interstate highways and limiting lane closures on state routes that directly serve major tourist and recreation centers.
Georgia gas prices increased slightly at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $1.66 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average is 2 cents more than a week ago, 2 cents less than last month, and 99 cents less than this time last year.
Trion Police Chief David Gilleland says the Trion Police Department is investigating an incident in which a gun was fired. The incident took place on Monday evening. Chief Gilleland says no one was injured. Gilleland says rumors on social media that a drive by shooting took place are incorrect. The police chief says he will issue a statement on the incident later.


UPDATE: The owner of the utility vehicle says that an arrest has been made.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader is looking for the public’s help in identifying suspects who attempted to steal a side-by-side utility vehicle on Spring Creek Road in Trion. The suspects attempted to hook a chain to the utility vehicle and pull it off with the car that the suspects were in. The homeowner where the utility vehicle was located was able to capture the attempted theft on video surveillance. An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal accident that happened back in March of this year that resulted in the death of twenty-two-year-old Chattooga County woman.
