The Fort Payne Board of Education accepted the resignation of a teacher who was accused of having sexual relations with a student.

Dr. Jeremy Deaton, the Cherokee County, Alabama coroner has announced his resignation. Dr. Deaton submitted his resignation to Alabama Governor Kay Ivey on Friday. Dr. Deaton said that he was resigning for health reasons and has been undergoing treatments since earlier this year. Governor Ivey will name a replacement for Dr. Deaton to fill the constitutional position in Cherokee County.
