MRS. GENEVA HAMMOCK DARDEN- Age 101,- of Summerville, GA passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She was born on August 5, 1919 to the late Richard and Pauline West Hammock. She was a member of West 5th Street Church of Christ. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at West 5th Street Church of Christ from 12:00 P. M. – 1:30 P. M. A private service will follow. A bicycle rider was airlifted by Lifeforce on Thursday of this week after being struck by a vehicle. The incident took place in Trion. According to reports, the rider – who has not been identified – was suffering from extensive injuries. The Lifeforce helicopter landed at the Trion Track Field to transport the injured party. A thirty-year-old LaFayette man wound up in the Chattooga County jail after a traffic stop shortly after midnight on Thursday.

As COVID-19 continues to impact lives across the state, the Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) Foundation is working to help residents of the northwest Georgia region by launching a fundraising campaign, which will run from Oct. 1 – Dec. 1.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) received the first shipment of Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid COVID-19 Tests this week. The initial distribution contains 207,000 of the antigen tests, but Georgia is slated to receive 3 million tests by the end of the year. These first tests will be distributed to public health districts statewide for use in schools, colleges and universities, among first responders and other critical areas of need in communities statewide.
