Nine States Seeing Gas Prices Under $2 Per Gallon

Nearly 20 percent of states are currently enjoying prices below $2.00 per gallon. Nationally, retail averages have dropped ­­­83 of the past 90 days. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline currently sits at $2.30 per gallon, which is six cents less than one week ago, 24 cents less than one month ago and 16 cents less than at the same time last year.

Woman Drives through Paint

Lyerly woman Barbara Kilgore filed a report with Summerville police after she drove her car through an unavoidable splatter of yellow paint.

Kilgore told a police officer taking the report that she was driving down Economy Street in town in her 2013 Chevrolet Captiva. She said that though she didn’t know where the paint had come from or how it was flung into the roadway, that it was unavoidable that her car was splattered by it.

“Come Get Me. Please Hurry.”

Rome Police Officer Arrested for Hit and Run of Small Child

On December 19, 2018 the Rome Police Department received information that a possible hit and run accident resulting in an injury to a three-year-old child had occurred at the Kid Stop at 1700 Dean Avenue. The accident was reported to have occurred on Monday, December 17, 2018 at about 5:15 PM.

Purse Stolen at Wal-Mart

A woman reported that her purse was stolen at the Trion Wal-Mart on Sunday earlier this week.

Victim/complainant Holly Crabb is recorded in reports as saying that she was trying on shoes in the shoe department when she laid down her small rectangular black leather purse, and that when she went to retrieve the purse, it was gone.

Miss Crabb advised that while her purse contained no cash, it did have credit/debit cards which she had canceled, her diver’s license, and miscellaneous items totaling about $300 in value.

The sheriff’s deputy told Crabb that they would connect with Wal-Mart’s asset protection department and obtain surveillance camera footage.

The case remains under investigation at the sheriff’s office.

Trion Woman Reports Harassment

A Trion woman reported being harassed by a former male acquaintance on Christmas Eve earlier this week.

The woman told a county sheriff’s deputy that she had been talking to the man for about 2 years, but had begun to distance herself from him several months ago, telling him to leave her alone. She went on to say that he continues to bother her at work in Floyd County, where she has already filed a report with the local law enforcement.

“(The complainant) advised that (the alleged suspect) continues to text her and when she blocks the number he uses a texting app to send her messages. (The complainant) advised that this has been going on for several months and she is living in fear.”

The woman was advised of how to take up the issue with the local magistrate.
