County sheriff’s office records state that a catalytic converter was stolen from the church van of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
A Summerville man’s handgun was possibly stolen some time during October or November.
The Back Berryton Rd. man, unnamed in police reports from the sheriff’s office, “reported that he noticed that his handgun was missing from his residence”, saying that it was in neither his holster nor box, and that he was confident that it was in his house before it was taken.
The man spoke with the county’s investigator about individuals who may have had access to the gun. The case remains active.
Trion woman Melissa Milam told local law enforcement last Friday that an acquaintance had stolen $1,000 from her.
The runoff election for a post on the Georgia Public Service Commission and for Georgia’s next Secretary of State will be held today.
For Secretary of State, voters may pick between Brad Raffensperger (R) and John Barrow (D) for Secretary of State. Raffensperger is a former state representative and John’s Creek City Councilman, and Barrow is a former U.S. Representative.
The runoff was triggered because neither major party candidate received 50% of the vote in the November General Election, with Raffensberger leading Barrow by just over 16,000 votes (%0.4). This occurred largely because Libertarian candidate Smythe Duvall received a larger portion enough portion of votes. Duvall, not qualifying for the runoff with just over 2% of the total vote, has endorsed Barrow in the runoff election; Duvall said that Barrow’s views on needed reforms in the Secretary of State’s office line up closely with his own .
The race for Public Service Commissioner is down to incumbent Public Service Commissioner Chuck Eaton (R) and Lindy Miller (D).
Voting will take place in your local polling precinct. If you are not sure where to vote, you can check your polling place here. Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote. Polling places across the county will be open from 7 AM until 7 PM.

ATLANTA – Dec. 3, 2018 – As the official start of winter approaches, Georgia Power encourages its 2.5 million customers to be winter-weather ready, as the company is once again partnering with FEMA, GEMA, GDOT and the National Weather Service for Winter Weather Preparedness Week (WWPW), which Governor Nathan Deal has proclaimed will take place December 3 – 7.
The 2018 campaign revolves around several statewide events and an online video series hosted on Georgia Power’s YouTube channel. Each day of the week will focus on a different preparedness tip or action that customers can take to help their families become winter-weather ready.

EMA attendees will have the chance to tour one of Georgia Power’s mobile command centers, the Social Media Center and the Storm Center to learn more about the company’s storm preparedness and response capabilities.
