According to records from the Summerville Police Department, a McGinnis Cir. resident recently called 9-1-1 when a neighbor’s dog had been vicious toward her young daughter.

Jennifer Browning told to a responding officer that the black dog belonged her neighbor, Casey Swann. When the officer went to the resident to speak with someone, the door was answered by Jessica Smith, who was sitting for Swann while he was at work. When the concern about the dog was explained, Smith said she would not allow the kids to let the dog out any more.

Smith was advised that she would be responsible if the dog injured Browning’s daughter while Smith was in charge of the house.

A report was filed on the incident at Browning’s request.

Saturday’s Peach State Marching Festival and Competition in Rome, GA was an overwhelming success for the Trion Marching Band!

At one of the most competitive and prestigious high school band competitions in Georgia, the Marching Bulldogs’ band, percussion, color guard, and drum major Brooke Appelbaum each received a score of 1, which means “superior”, and is the highest score on a 1-3 rating system.

What’s more, both the color guard and the band were each separately rated First Place in their division, Class A, beating out five other bands and five other color guards in their class.

Congratulations to the Marching Bulldogs on all of their successes!

On his last day booked into the county jail, a Summerville man filed a police report, saying that his bank card had been stolen by someone who he asked to do him a favor.

Jesse Wayne DeBerry of W Washington St. told a city  police officer that on October 10th, he had given another Summerville man permission to use Deberry’s bank card to put money on his account at the jail. The money never came through, however.

At DeBerry’s request, the officer checked the account’s online statements, where he found that three online purchases of $39 each ($117 total) had been debited to the account, and no deposits had been made.

The incident remains under investigation by the SPD.

Summerville resident Jackie Shropshire’s car’s front passenger side wheel was damaged by a pothole on Highlands Ave. Wednesday.

While having a police report filed, Shropshire told a city police officer that he was headed southbound on Highlands Ave when his 1994 Cadillac sedan Deville hit the pothole near Frank St.

Public works director Terry Tinney was called to the scene, where Tinney said he would look into whether the car’s damaged could be filed on the city’s insurance. The police report does not state whether it could or not.

The Chattooga Indians and Trion Bulldogs both took wins with impressive margins during last night’s games.

Lyerly Elementary School’s Pre-K and Kindergarten classes attended a fire safety class yesterday at the Ag Building at Summerville Middle School.

The class was taught by firefighters from the Summerville Fire Department and rangers from the local Georgia Forestry Commission post.

The 54th Annual Chiaha Harvest Fair is upon us and it promises to be better than ever!

The family-friendly festival will take place Saturday and Sunday at Ridge Ferry Park. Visitors will enjoy a wide variety of handmade arts and crafts by artists from around the region.

As always, there will be a top-notch variety of musicians on the stage this year, and no trip to Chiaha would be complete without stopping by the food court and sampling a culinary treat from one of the many food vendors. There are also activities for kids.

Chiaha is open from 10 AM-5 PM, both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for Adults; $4 for Seniors; and $1 for kids 3-12.
