Blood Assurance says recent trauma cases have quickly tightened local blood supplies, prompting an urgent call for donors—especially those with O positive and other rare blood types—to help area hospitals meet lifesaving needs.
“Situations like this show how quickly the local blood supply can drop to critical levels,” said Garry Allison, senior vice president of operations. “Every donation helps ensure hospitals have what they need for trauma patients and others requiring lifesaving transfusions.”
Blood Assurance donation centers are accepting walk-ins, including the Rome location at 178 Shorter Ave., and donors can also give at mobile blood drives across the region. Those who prefer to schedule a time or have questions can visit BloodAssurance.org or call 800-962-0628.
To donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Donors are encouraged to eat a hearty meal and drink plenty of water before donating.
