The annual Twisted ankle Trail Races will be held at Sloppy Floyd State Park on September 7, 2024. Three race distances are offered with a 5K (3.1 miles), a 10 Mile race, and a Half Marathon (13.1 miles) for every level of experience. The race has been held since 2005, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park. The Summerville Recreation Department is planning a parade next week to honor the 8 & Under Boys and Girls State Champion teams.
A fundraiser for the Chattooga 4H Shotgun Team will be held next month at the Floyd County Wildlife Club, located just off Highway 100, just across the Chattooga-Floyd County line. The sporting clays fundraiser will take place on Saturday, August 24th at 9 AM. The registration fee is $500 for a four-person team. All participants will need to provide their own shells and sign a waiver provided by the Floyd County Wildlife Club. Lunch is included. The first place team will receive an $800 cash prize, and there will be various door prizes given away. Former Trion Bulldog Gus Navarro and current two-time All-State Kicker Andy Ramirez will be hosting a “Kicking & Punting” Camp coming up next week for grades six to twelve. The camp will be held at Sam R. McCain Stadium in Trion and is free to attend. The camp will take place each night from 7 PM – 8:30 PM.
The Chattooga Indians will be hosting a Youth Football Camp coming up next month. The camp will be held from 6 PM – 8 PM on Tuesday, July 9th, Wednesday, July 10th and Thursday, July 11th from 6 PM until 8 PM at Buddy Windle Field at Chattooga High School. AARP will be offering a Smart Driver classroom course that can save you money on your car insurance. The classroom course will be held at the Menlo Housing Authority Lawrence Center on Edison Street in Menlo on Thursday June 27th from 8:30 AM – 3 PM. Lunch will be provided. There are no tests and participants can save a minimum of 10% on the car insurance premiums. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Trion Schools will be offering a Summer Cheer Camp coming up next month. The camp will be held at the Trion High School Cheer Room for ages kindergarten through fifth grade. The cost of the camp is $60 and includes snacks and a T-shirt. The camp will focus on skills such as stunting, tumbling, cheers and dance. The camp will be held July 16th, 17th and 18th from 4-6 PM each evening.
