Step back in time to a slower pace of life and enjoy an “Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner” at the Historic Summerville Depot. This coming Sunday, October 21st, servers and staff will be dressed in old fashioned attire for the day and event goers will have the opportunity to enjoy an “Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner” while enjoying live music. The meal will be served by a local restaurant at the cost of $8.00 for a meat and 2 vegetables, or $6.00 for a 4 vegetable plate. Bowls of pinto beans and cornbread will also be offered at the cost of $3.00.

An arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Train is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and a turning of the Summerville Turntable will also be featured. Other vendors will be on site for those wishing to shop. This event will operate from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and is free for the public to attend.

The sights, smells, and sounds of the German traditions will be found at the Summerville Depot on Saturday, October 20. Summerville Main Street is set to present an Oktoberfest at the Summerville Depot to welcome the arrival of the train. Hours for the festival will be from 11:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m. Admission is free for this event.

Oktoberfest will include traditional local foods, along with an array of Oktoberfest traditions such as: bratwurst, beer cheese soup, barvarian pretzels, German Chocolate, strudels, other German inspired foods, and artisans. Festival attendees are encouraged to sport German wear to greet the train and brush up on the chicken dance for extra fun.

Thinkers of all ages are invited to “Hillbilly Socrates” tonight (October 10th) at the Chattooga Civic Center.

The evening will be an open forum discussion for anyone interested in philosophy and would like to enjoy lively discussion about questions of origin, meaning, morality, and destiny. All are welcome. Call 706-266-4636 for more information.

The Lady Indians Softball team will host the 4th place team from region 6-AA in the 1st Round on October 9 at 5 PM.

This will be a ‘best of 3’ series with a double header on Tuesday an game 3 on Wednesday if necessary. Come out and support the Lady Indians in their quest for a state title.

Admission is $7 per person per GHSA. Only GHSA passes will be accepted. CHS Softball and Super Passes are not valid for this event per GHSA rules. Our Tribe, Our Time!

The Chattooga County Beekeepers will meet tonight, Tuesday, October 9th for their monthly meeting at 7 PM in the Chattooga County Agricultural Center.

Gail Foster will be speaking about late season pollinator plants.

On Thursday, October 18th at 2:30 PM,  at Oakview Rehabilitation center, there will be a peer support meeting for individuals living with hearing loss.

The Group will  meet in the room across the hall from the Social Services Office. This Group is for individuals whose vision loss interferes with driving, reading, and facial recognition among other issues.

Experience fall at its best as artists, craftsman, musicians, and food vendors gather together for a second weekend of fun! The Sequoyah Quilt Show will be held on October 13th at the Summerville Depot during the hours of 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Admission is free.

There will be large quilting exhibits of all kinds, as well as demonstrations inside the depot. Quilts may also be sold at this event. New this year will be a “Bed Turning” of quilts narrated by quitters throughout the day. Ribbons will be awarded in the areas of: Most Historical Quilt, Most Unique Quilt, and Best Craftsmanship.
