‘Your State Parks Day’ Volunteer Opportunity at all State Parks

The annual ‘Your State Parks Day’ is Saturday, September 30th.  Interested individuals can volunteer their time to participate in special projects to address various preservation and beautification efforts of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. In addition to all of the other state parks and historic sites, there will be opportunities to volunteer both at Sloppy Floyd State Park in Summerville and Cloudland Canyon in Rising Fawn. Bike Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) in Dowdy Park

The Bicycle Ride Across Georgia’s US Bicycle Route 21 is covering 160+ miles from Chattanooga to Atlanta September 29 – October 1, and is coming to Summerville’s Dowdy Park this Friday.

Project Red Light Bike Ride

The second annual ‘Project Red Light bike ride’ will be held on the 30th of this month. It will start at the Summerville Boy Scout Hut and end at Desoto State Falls. Registration starts at 11 AM and kick stands will go up at 2 PM.

The cost is $20 per bike and $10 per passenger. BBQ plates will coleslaw and baked beans will be sold after the ride for $10 each, and shirts will be sold for $20. There will be a family-friendly event at the end with a live band, door prizes, bounce houses, face painting, cotton candy, hair coloring, and hot dog plates. Kids get in free. All proceeds will go to local firefighters.
