James H. Floyd State Park to host an Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 15th at Picnic Shelter #1. Activities and Food begins at 12 PM: Sack Lunch consists of hot dog, chips, drink and dessert, $5.00. Or individually: Hot dog $2.00 and dessert $1.00. Buy tickets at designated booth for activities and food. The Easter Egg Hunt starts at 1:00 PM. Proceeds go to Friends of Park for Wildflower and Pollinator Garden Project at Park.
All Georgia State Parks require a $5.00 parking pass per car.
The Lyerly Civic Club will meet April 20th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lyerly City Hall.
They will discuss:
1. The Lyerly Civic Club Tillotson-Menlo College Scholarship program for Chattooga County high schools.
2. Ways for the club to help purchase items for the new Lyerly Community Center.
3. Planting new flowers in the flower pots around town, as well as maintaining the crepe myrtles.
4. Moving elections to a later date in the year.
The 2017 annual dues of $18 will be due for all members, or any wanting to join.
All are invited to attend, male or female. You do not have to live in the city limits to be a part of the Lyerly Civic Club, nor do you have to live in the county.
Little River Escape, a tiny house community in Cloudland, GA is hosting the 9th Tiny House Roadshow May 19-21, 11-5 EDT.
This event will feature tiny homes in natural settings to provide a better sense of tiny house living. Living in smaller homes isn't just about the homes — it's also about the surroundings, whether it's a suburban neighborhood or a mountaintop. It's sometimes hard to imagine how a tiny house lifestyle will fit into a community, or your own property. There will be at least 17 tiny houses, ranging in size from 150 ft.² to 1000 ft.², as well as vendors booths with products and services supporting the tiny house movement. This "on location" roadshow is the first of its kind offering houses, land, community, and fun! We’ll have music and food so plan to spend the day.

Kindergarten enrollment will be held at the Chattooga County Enrollment Center for any students that will be eligible to attend Kindergarten for the upcoming 17-18 school year. Registration dates are April 20th and 21st, from 8 a.m to 4 p.m. To be eligible the child must turn 5 before September 1, 2017. Please bring the required following documents to register, Birth Certificate, SS card, Eye, Ear and Dental Form, Immunization form, and proof of residence for Chattooga County (must be a utility bill or rent/lease agreement ). All these documents are required at the time of enrollment. (March 22, 2017) — The American Red Cross is issuing a call for type O negative and AB blood donors to make an appointment to give after severe winter weather in some parts of the country caused about 250 Red Cross blood drives to cancel in March, resulting in more than 8,500 uncollected blood donations.
Type O negative blood and type AB plasma are two of the most in-demand blood products by hospitals. Those who give can help patients locally or across the country as the Red Cross has the ability to move blood products where and when they are needed most.
“All blood types are needed to meet the constant need of patients, and there is a significant need now for type O negative and AB donations to help some of the most vulnerable patients,” said Mario Sedlock, director of donor recruitment, Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region. “We ask that you schedule an appointment to roll up a sleeve to help save a life in the coming days.”
Donations help patients like Brady Prosser. He was severely burned in October while mowing near burning leaves. He received regular – sometimes daily – blood and plasma transfusions during his hospitalization.
Type O negative blood can be transfused to patients with any blood type and is often needed in emergency situations when there isn’t time to determine a patient’s blood type. While less than 7 percent of the U.S. population has type O negative blood, hospitals depend on frequent O negative donations to ensure it’s always available for patients in need. Type O negative blood donors are an important part of the Red Cross trauma team.
Type AB is the universal plasma type and can be transfused to patients of any blood type in an emergency. Plasma helps maintain blood pressure and supplies critical proteins for clotting and immunity. Plasma can be donated through a blood donation.
How to help
Eligible donors can learn more, find a donation opportunity and schedule an appointment by using the free Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can save time at their donation appointment by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive.
