For another year, the Chattooga County Young Farmers are offering residents the chance to purchase genuine, Georgia-grown Vidalia onions as part of their annual fundraising effort. These sweet, mild onions, a Georgia staple, will be shipped directly to Chattooga County in late April. The Chattooga County Young Farmers are now accepting orders for the highly anticipated onions. The deadline to place your order is April 25th.Pick-up for the onions is tentatively scheduled for mid-May. Those who purchase will be contacted directly with the exact date and time for pick-up as the date approaches. Interested residents can place their orders now. Checks should be made payable to the Chattooga County Young Farmers. This fundraiser supports the organization’s efforts to promote agricultural education and leadership development in the community. There’s Hope For The Hungry will be giving free food Wednesday April 16th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at South Summerville Baptist Church. No ID required but food must be picked up in person.
The Chattooga County Historical Society is pleased to announce its Spring Quarterly Meeting, scheduled for this Sunday, April 13th, at the historic Summerville Depot in downtown Summerville. The meeting is free and open to the public. This year’s highlight will be the full-length premiere of the documentary “Hester”, that documents the life of an enslaved woman in Dirtown Valley. Last year, attendees were treated to a preview, and this year promises a complete and moving story culminating in the discovery of a connection to local residents Betty Mosley and Stacy Scoggins Marshall. “Hester” tells a powerful narrative of a restorative response to a challenging past, demonstrating how historical understanding can bring a community together. The Chattooga County Historical Society encourages all residents to attend and learn more about this important piece of local history. The meeting will be held at the Summerville Depot
Chattooga County Masonic Lodges are raffling off a beef – and a freezer! Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Chattooga County Department of Family and Children’s Services Foster Children and Foster Families. The drawing will be held on September 25th. Get ready to tee off! Prodigy Events and Trion will be hosting the “Trion to Ace IV” PDGA-sanctioned C-Tier disc golf tournament on May 3, 2025, hosted by the Trion Recreation Department. This two-round, shotgun-start event will challenge players on a 12-hole course with a par of 3, totaling 250 feet. The tournament promises a day of friendly competition and beautiful scenery. Entry fee is $45 per player, which includes a player’s pack featuring two custom-stamped Prodigy discs. Awards will be presented following the completion of the second round. The event offers on-site parking and bathroom facilities. Lunch will be available for purchase from the Trion Recreation Department.
