Halloween Candy Walk Date Announced

The annual Halloween Candy Walk in Summerville will be held three days before Halloween on Saturday, October 28th.  The Candy Walk will take place at the open air pavilion, located on East Washington Street and in the Summerville Streetscape Area.  There will also be a costume contest, the Pumpkin Palooza, a Pumpkin Derby and a Pumpkin Contest.  The Halloween Candy Walk is sponsored by the Trion-Summerville Optimist Club in conjunction with Summerville Main Street.  You can see a press release about the day’s events below:

Sloppy Floyd State Park Outdoor Adventure Day

The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park invite everyone out for the 2023 Outdoor Adventure Day and Kid’s Fishing Rodeo at James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park.  The annual event will include  two reptile shows, one birds of prey show, and two opportunities to participate in archery. There will also be prizes for kids who participate in the fishing rodeo and catch a tagged catfish.  The event will take place on Saturday, September 23rd from 9 AM until 3 PM.  There is a $5 parking fee at the state park. Fall Hayrides At Cloudland Canyon State Park

Every Sunday during the month of October, the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park will be hosting FREE hayrides at the park.  Attendees can enjoy the hayrides from Noon until 5 PM.  Enjoy a tractor-pulled hayride through the park and fun family games and activities.  Remember, there is a $5 vehicle parking fee at Georgia State Parks.  Donations to the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park will be accepted.

“Sunday Dinner” At The Depot Next Month

Old Fashioned Day Sunday Dinner is coming to the historic Summerville Depot next month.  The City of Summerville will host the event with Sunday dinner served by Jim’s Restaurant from 11 AM until 2:30 PM.  The cost is $7.25 for a meat and 2 vegetables or $6.45 for a 3 vegetable plate.  Drinks will be $2 and dessert for $2.50.  There will be indoor and outdoor seating and the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Train will arrive at 1 PM.  Live Bluegrass and Gospel music will be provided by Low Down Revival.  The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 15th.

AC Carter Alumni Fish Fry Fundraiser

There will be fish-fry fundraiser for AC Carter Alumni coming up on Saturday, September 9, 2023 starting at noon.  Plates will be $10 each and sandwiches will be $5.  The fish fry will be held at the Fit Pit in Summerville.  If you have questions, contact Mr. Alfred McDaniel at 706-895-2659 or Ms. Doris Shepherd at 706-859-4981.

Local Living Market September 30

Summerville Main Street is looking for local businesses and vendors for the Local Living Market coming up the last day of September.  The event will showcase local businesses and attractions, and culture in Chattooga County.  The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Engine and Passenger Train will be arriving at the Historic Summerville Depot around 1 PM.  Any interested local businesses should contact Susan Locklear with Summerville Main Street at slocklear@summervillega.org .

 

1963 Chattooga Class Reunion

The Chattooga High School class of 1963 will hold a class reunion on Saturday, October 14th at Jefferson’s in Summerville.  All classmates are invited to attend.

Summerville Chili & Brunswick Stew Cookoff

With the return of of the steam engines to the Summerville Depot, the City of Summerville is hosting a chili and Brunswick stew cookoff on September 16, 2023.  The event will be held from 10 AM until 3 PM and trophies will be awarded.  First place prize is $500 and second place is $200 and the third place winner will take home $100.  There will be $5 tasting wristbands available to sample all the stew and chili.  There will also be live vendors, live music and of course – the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum steam train.
