There’s Hope for the Hungry will be passing out free food today at Central Avenue Baptist Church in Trion. The food distribution will be from 10 AM until 1 PM. No ID is required and anyone in need of groceries is welcome to come by. Central Avenue Baptist Church is located at 14074 Highway 27 in Trion.
The good news is our Thursday is shaping up to be one of the best weather days of the week. Temperatures across Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama this morning are in the upper 20’s to low 30’s and we will see clear skies and sunshine today with a high in the upper 50’s. As we head into Friday, we will see clouds build in with rain and windy conditions. A wind advisory is in place starting at 7 AM on Friday morning and going through 1 AM on Saturday morning. There is a 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday with highs in the upper 50’s. We will see clearing skies on Saturday but will struggle to reach the mid-40’s for our high temperatures. As we look towards next week, some extremely cold weather is on the way with daytime highs only in the upper 30’s to low 40’s and lows overnight in the teens, with wind chills in the single digits.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp told the Georgia Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that he want an additional $1.8 billion to be spent on infrastructure in the Peach State. He also wants to expand health care training for dentists and doctors. All of this is possible because Georgia is in good shape with a $11 billion cash surplus. Kemp also told the friendly business owners audience that he wants to make it more difficult for workers to unionize in Georgia. All of the remarks are leading up the governor’s State of the State address that he will be giving to the Georgia General Assembly today. Kemp will also likely propose more pay for public employees and teachers. Kemp said he also wants to invest another $250 million in the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, which loans money to local governments for water and sewer projects. Kemp earlier gave out $442 million in water and sewer grants using federal COVID-19 aid.

A forty-seven-year old Piedmont, Alabama man was arrested in Floyd County yesterday on charges of being a fugitive from justice. According to arrest records David Jason Guice was charged additionally with felony probation violation. Guice was arrested in April of last year on drug charges and domestic violence charges in Alabama. He has also been arrested previously in Georgia on multiple drug offences.
Center Post Community Center will host a free music night on Saturday January 20, 2024 beginning at 6 PM. Local talent, Laney Rayburn and Mason Thompson will be performing on stage. Two Trion Town Council members were sworn in this week by Chattooga County Probate Judge Gary Woods. Dustin Rosser was sworn in representing Trion Town Council Seat Four. Councilman Don Harris was sworn in for his fourth term, representing Trion Town Council Seat Five. Harris has served as a council member for twelve years.
