The Chattooga County Beekeepers meeting that was to have been held tonight (Tuesday, January 9th) at 7 PM at the Chattooga County Ag Building has been cancelled.
Heavy rains moved through the area overnight and into the morning hours. Reports from around Chattooga County today indicated that anywhere from 3.5 to close to 5 inches of rain fell which led to flooding problems.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia issued a special weather statement on Tuesday afternoon saying higher elevations in our area could see some light snow tonight. The statement only applies to areas with elevations above 1500 feet – which would include Cloudland in Chattooga County and some of the higher peaks of Taylor’s Ridge. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia issued a Flood Warning for Chattooga County earlier this morning. The flood warning is in effect until 5:10 PM. Also, there is a Wind Advisory until 7 PM. Chattooga County Schools canceled earlier this morning due to hazardous road conditions across the county. Earlier today, there were multiple streets and roads under water. A power line came down in the Spring Creek area prompting the road to be closed. Authorities in the City of Summerville and the Town of Trion began issuing warnings about several streets that were covered by water earlier today.
Chattooga 911 says that at this time, Blowing Springs Road has water standing and is still passible, but drivers should use caution.

W Halls Valley Rd Trion- standing water in several areas
Mountain View Rd
Williams Rd, Beavers Rd, Hair Lake Rd, Rocky Hollow Rd, Lick Skillet Rd, Calland Dr, and Sloppy Floyd Lake Rd.
In the City of Summerville:
Northwest Congress Street in the curve at Meggison Dr and Woodland Ave has standing water.
Economy Street around E Washington Street.
In the Town of Trion:
Mayor Lanny Thomas told WZQZ News that work done by the Town of Trion earlier this year in the Park Street area seems to be alleviating some of the flooding concerns, however the Trion Police Department reported areas of concern earlier today from Simmons Street to Walnut Street. Also in the county near Trion, Harrell Street has a large amount of water over the roadway.

Chattooga County Schools are CLOSED today.
Sheriff Mark Schrader says to use caution on all county roads this morning. There are multiple areas where there is standing water in the roadway. Use caution.
High winds this afternoon could bring more trees down and cause power outages.

Georgia gas prices continue to drop at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $2.97 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 2 cents less than a week ago, 9 cents less than a month ago, and 15 cents more than this time last year. It now costs an average of $44.55 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are now paying $1.35 less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.
The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage as the nation faces the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years. The Red Cross blood supply has fallen to critically low levels across the country, and blood and platelet donors are urged to make a donation appointment to help alleviate the shortage and help ensure lifesaving medical procedures are not put on hold.
