There will be a lot of traffic on the roadways across Georgia today, and the Georgia State Patrol is urging safety for the New Year’s Holiday. While most drivers don’t travel great distances on New Year’s Eve like they do at Thanksgiving and Christmas, state troopers say you still need to plan ahead and drive responsibly.
The Chattooga Young Farmers will host their regular monthly meeting for January later this week. The meeting will be held on Thursday, January 4th at the Chattooga County Ag Building off Middle School Drive in Summerville at 7 PM. Jason Hammonds with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be the speaker and will present a program on controlled burns. The meal will be $7 and will consist of baked spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. If you plan to attend, you should RSVP to Chattooga Young Farmer Director Lauren Jarrett no later than January 2nd.

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced that as of December 27, 2023, Georgia has achieved free status for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in poultry following a November outbreak at a commercial raised-for-release waterfowl facility in Southwest Georgia. As listed with the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH, formerly OIE), this designation allows exports and international trade for Georgia poultry products to be restored.
