The Rome City Commission has adopted a resolution that designates this coming Sunday, which is New Year’s Eve, as the one Sunday in the calendar year that allows certain establishments to pour alcohol.
A twenty-four-year-old man was arrested by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office after a traffic stop near Mountain View earlier this month. According to a report released this week by the sheriff’s office, Alexis Gallegos was initially stopped for driving 75 MPH in a 45 MPH speed zone. During the traffic stop for the speeding violation, a deputy noticed signs of impairment and the odor of marijuana. Gallegos admitted to having smoked a marijuana “blunt” about a half-hour before the traffic stop. Gallegos was charged with speeding and DUI for drugs and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

A twenty-year-old Kennesaw man was arrested around 1:30 AM on Thursday morning at Mount Berry Mall in Rome after police say he was caught in a sex act with a thirteen-year-old girl. Brandon Khounsy Sengvixay was taken into custody and told police that the girl had lied about her age. He was also found to be in possession of marijuana at the time of his arrest. The suspect also admitted to having sexual relations with the girl in Floyd County the previous week. He was charged with statutory rape, sodomy and possession of marijuana and booked into the Floyd County Jail.
Chattooga County Deputies responded to a call on Christmas Eve at the Dollar General Store on Highway 48 in Menlo. When the deputy arrived, he observed a man placing items in the trunk of a car. An employee at the Dollar General store identified the man as the suspect. The suspect reportedly stole two bags of charcoal, a pack of toilet paper and a case of Clover Valley bottled water. Thirty-four-year-old Jonathan Cody Mobbs was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

According to a report released this week by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Billy Dewayne Robinson was seen walking down Central Avenue in Trion shortly before midnight last Thursday near some property that was recently burglarized.
