The Georgia Nurses Foundation (GNF) and Amerigroup Georgia have awarded $27,000 in scholarships to deserving Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) nursing students dedicated to working in rural Georgia. This scholarship initiative is part of GNF and Amerigroup’s broader efforts to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in rural communities, enhance access to care, and improve health outcomes for more Georgians.
A fifty-year-old woman was arrested on drug charges after deputies performed a traffic stop on Highway 27 in Summerville. According to a report released this week, the deputies were sitting int he parking lot of Burger King around 3:30 AM, when they noticed a vehicle pull into the nearby car wash. Deputies believed the car was being driven by a suspected drug dealer.
A twenty-year-old Summerville man was arrested this week on DUI charges after a Summerville Police Officer on patrol noticed the vehicle he was driving did not have a working brake light. The officer also noticed a large crack in the windshield of the vehicle. After performing a traffic stop on Kelly Street and speaking with the driver, the officer detected signs of impairment. The officer said that the driver was drowsy and his breathing was erratic. The driver did not have a driver’s license, but gave his name and date of birth to the officer. Charlton Edwards, Jr. had two warrants out for his arrest and two bags of marijuana inside the vehicle. Edwards was charged with DUI, brake light violation, driving without a license and driving with no seat belt and marijuana possession and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Summerville Police were called to a Highland Avenue Address recently about a burglary. The complainant told responding officers that his house has been broken into repeatedly. Most recently, a tote with heirloom dishes and other family keepsakes was stolen. In the past, the complainant said that thieves had stolen a red garden tiller. The complainant said that the burglars are breaking into his shed and into his home. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
