This coming Saturday, December 2nd, Summerville Main Street will be presenting Summerville’s Victorian Christmas in downtown Summerville. Main Street recalls the spirit of Christmases past with a live Victorian Christmas celebration. Journey into the past as our turn-of-the-century Downtown ushers you into the spirit of Christmas long ago. Enjoy live street performers, caroling, a Live Nativity, and a Christmas Market full of lots of food and shopping treasures. This year, children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa at the Caboose that is located just outside the historic Summerville Depot and has been decorated for Christmas by Summerville Main Street. Children can talk with Santa and Mrs. Clause and enjoy cookies and milk. Summerville’s Victorian Christmas will be this Saturday from 11 AM – 5 PM.
Georgia is ranked top 10 in the nation with the highest level of flu cases and while you might be eager to gather with loved ones this Holiday season, health experts urge you to stay safe. The CDC reports a total of 107 hospitalized due to the flu since the first week of October. While the current rates for flu cases are on the lower spectrum, health experts remind us this is just the beginning of flu season. Officials with the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health say everyone ages 6-months and older should get a flu vaccination and updated COVID-19 vaccination. The vaccines can be given at the same time, so it’s just one trip to your healthcare provider or pharmacy. Side effects are typically mild and only last a day or two. If you do get sick, vaccination will help prevent serious illness or hospitalization. The holiday season can be stressful with responsibilities and obligations. Remember good eating, sleeping, and exercise can help keep you healthy, too.
The Chattooga Young Farmers will be holding a Holiday Wreath Class coming up on Tuesday, December 5th at 6 PM. The class will be held at the Chattooga County Ag Center on Middle School Drive in Summerville. There are limited spots available for the class and the cost is $40 per person and includes supplies. A Rome man, sixty-year-old Louie Casey Jr, was killed following a two-vehicle collision on Redmond Circle near Lavender Road Friday afternoon.
