The Salvation Army in Rome says that their annual Red Kettle Campaign is underway.  Funds raised during the annual Christmas holiday event help provide services to those in need in Floyd, Polk and Chattooga Counties.   The 2023 campaign goal is $90,000.00.  “While we are busy all year long, this is our most significant fundraising season, where we pull out all the stops,” said Maj. Hank Harwell, corps officer for the local Salvation Army unit. “The donations we receive from our generous neighbors directly impact the most needy in our community for good.”  The Red Kettle Campaign is going on now through December 23rd.  The Salvation Army welcomes anyone interested in volunteering during this special time of the year. Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry is seeking bids to provide meals to the Chattooga County Jail for the upcoming year.  The jail meals are to be served twice daily and made available 365 days per-year.  The commissioner will be taking bids for the jail meals until December 8, 2023.  Those wishing to submit bids must have a registered dietitian working with them to conform to all state requirements for meals served to inmates.  Details on the jail meal bid can be accessed at the Chattooga County Commissioner’s Office on Commerce Street in Summerville.  The contract awarded will be for January 1 – December 31, 2024.

The Trion Recreation Department will be hosting a Mohawk Job Fair coming up next week.  The job fair will be held Wednesday, November 29th,  from 10 AM until 4 PM at the Trion Recreation Department, at 90 Dalton Street in Trion.  Anyone interested in a career at Mohawk is urged to come to the job fair.

The City of Summerville has plans for several Christmas events coming up in December.  The first will be a Victorian Christmas that will be held in the downtown area on Saturday, December 2nd.  That will be followed with the Summerville Christmas Parade, coming up on Monday, December 4th.  Then, on Friday, December 8th, the City of Summerville will be hosting Christmas in the Park at Dowdy Park.  Two bicycles will be given away at the Christmas in the Park event.  Summerville Main Street Director Susan Locklear says that Walmart in Trion has donated the two bicycles that will be given away at the event – one each to a boy and a girl.  Mark your calendars for these upcoming Christmas events sponsored by the City of Summerville.

Summerville Police received a report about a stolen debit card on Saturday of last week.  According to a report released this week, Sharon Celestino came to the Summerville Police Department to file a report about the theft.  The complainant said that her grandson picked up her son and brought her son to the house that she shared with her grandson.  After her son left the residence, the grandson’s wallet and the complainant’s debit card were missing.  Police say that the debit card was used several times and over $720 had been used out of the complainant’s bank account.  The incident was turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.
