Accident On Highway 114 On Sunday

Summerville Police worked a two-vehicle accident on Highway 114 in Summerville on Sunday afternoon.  According to police, a vehicle was pulling out of Bellah Avenue and pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle on Highway 114.  The passenger in the car that was hit complained of injuries and was transported to a Rome hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A complete report will be released later by the Summerville Police Department.

DA Releases Statement On Drug Conviction

Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Clay Fuller released a statement last week about the conviction of Nicholas Ashley in Chattooga County Superior Court on drug trafficking charges.

Summerville City Council November Meeting

The Summerville City Council will hold their monthly meeting for November coming up tomorrow evening at Summerville City Hall.  The council is expected to award a bid for mowing gas line right of ways to the sole bidder – Tim Westbrooks.  Also, the council will be having the first reading of the year-end Fiscal 2022-2023 budget ordinance.  The council will also be hearing a request about a delay in the opening of Summerville’s second liquor store.  Originally, the store was to have been opened by December 31, 2023, but the owners are asking for an extension and say that they will have the store open by May 31, 2024.   The council will also be opening sealed bids for the mowing of Summerville Cemetery.  The meeting will get underway at 5 PM and the public is invited to attend.

Walker County Fabricating Plant Closes

Around 175 people are without a job after a Walker County plant abruptly shut its doors on Wednesday of last week.  Unique Fabricating, based in Michigan, manufactured OEM parts for the automotive industry.

Summerville’s Victorian Christmas Looking For Vendors

Summerville Main Street is seeking vendors for the Victorian Christmas celebration that will be held in downtown Summerville on Saturday, December 2, 2023.  The event will take place from 11 AM until 5 PM and will feature a live Nativity, Christmas caroling, live performances and kids games and contests.  Also, there will be an opportunity for cookies and milk with Santa.  Anyone interested in being a vendor should contact Susan Locklear with Summerville Main Street.

Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers executed a search warrant at a home on Warren Road Wednesday of last week and arrested three people on drug charges.

Stolen Beagle Reported To Sheriff’s Office

A Chattooga County man reported the theft of a hunting dog to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.  A deputy responded to Patrick Evans’ residence on Highway 100 and spoke with Mr. Evans about the incident.  The complainant told the responding deputy that a couple had been by his property to ask about buying a female beagle for $100.  Mr. Evans told the couple that the dog wasn’t for sale, and especially not for $100.  The dog turned up missing a few days later.  Mr. Evans said that he spoke with the woman who had been by about purchasing the dog and she claimed that she didn’t know anything about the missing beagle.  The dog is AKC registered and valued at $400, according to the complainant.
