Ribbon Cutting At Dixie Subs Tomorrow

The Chattooga Chamber, in partnership with Summerville Man Street, is inviting everyone to a ribbon cutting at Dixie Subs & More, located at the old Dixie service station on Highway 27 in Trion.  The ribbon cutting will be held tomorrow, Monday, November 13th at 11:30 AM.

Macon Man Threatens To Shoot Rep. Greene

The Rome News Tribune reported on Friday that a thirty-four-year-old Macon man is charged with making two calls to 14th District Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office on Wednesday stating that he was going to shoot her in the head with a sniper rifle.

Coach Mark Richt To Speak At Shorter

Shorter University gets the special privilege of hosting Coach Mark Richt for the first time after he is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. It was announced in January of 2023 that Coach Mark Richt was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame. The 2023 class will officially be inducted during the 65th National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner on December 5 in Las Vegas.

Trion Veterans Day Program Today

The Town of Trion will host their annual Veterans Day Program today.  Trion Police Chief David Gilleland told WZQZ News that the event has been moved from the Veterans Memorial to the Trion Recreation Department due to the possibility of inclement weather.  The program will get underway at 1 PM.  Colors will be presented by the LaFayette ROTC.  The keynote address will be given by U.S. Army Sgt. Sam Isaac Edwards.  Sgt. Edwards was born in Rome, Georgia and was educated at West Georgia State University and John Marshall Law School. He served in the Army Security Agency (NSA) in Southeast Asia during Vietnam War. He also served as Staff Assistant to President Jimmy Carter from 1977-81 and Aide to U.S. Senator John Glen of Ohio from 1983-84. Edwards was associated with the Defense Intelligence Agency from 1989-2008 and has worked in journalism since 2008. Everyone is invited to attend today’s ceremony to honor our veterans.

Veterans Day 2023

Chattooga County Veterans gathered at the courthouse in Summerville on Friday to have a time of food and fellowship before having a group picture taken in front of the Chattooga County Courthouse.  The event was organized by local veterans advocates Odell Anderson and former State Representative Barbara Reece.  Ms. Anderson and Ms. Reece will be honored as the grand marshals of the 2023 Summerville Christmas Parade in December. Today is Veterans Day and WZQZ Radio wants to say “Thank You” for your service to all the veterans who have given so much so that we can all be free.  If you see a veteran today, be sure to thank them for their services.

Chattooga Young Farmers Holiday Wreath Class

The Chattooga Young Farmers will be holding a Holiday Wreath Class coming up on Tuesday, December 5th at 6 PM.  The class will be held at the Chattooga County Ag Center on Middle School Drive in Summerville.  There are limited spots available for the class and the cost is $40 per person and includes supplies.  For more information contact Young Farmer Director Lauren Jarrett.
