Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.01 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, which is 6 cents less than a week ago, 31 cents less than a month ago, and 20 cents less than this time last year.
Two leading health providers in Rome have joined forces to improve access to high-quality health care in northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama. Atrium Health Floyd and Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic finalized an agreement to combine, bringing Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic under the Atrium Health care delivery brand.
Residents of the High Rise on Marvin Avenue in Summerville will be passing out candy this Saturday for any kids that want to come and trick-or-treat. They will begin passing out candy at 11 AM, this Saturday, October 28th. All children are welcome to come by.
Jamarcus Omarion Lackey ,18 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he led police on a chase in a stolen car. Police said that the car was taken from a home on Ashland Park in Rome before the chase on Ga Loop 1 and Calhoun Roads.
Summerville Police responded to a call last week about a suspicious person on Marvin Avenue. When the officer arrived, shortly before midnight, he spoke with a woman who said that when she pulled up at the parking lot at an apartment complex, she noticed a man rummaging through a van that was parked nearby. The officer spoke with the owner of the van who said that he thought he had locked the van when he parked it, but the responding officer could not find where the van had been damaged to gain entry. The suspect, described as a tall white man with a lot of tattoos, wearing black and white shoes and a green sweatshirt with the sleeves cut out, was not located.
On Monday, a fire alarm went off off at Lyerly Elementary School. An employee at the school noticed smoke, pulled the alarm and called the fire department. Lyerly Fire Department responded to the scene and found that a wall-mounted Baird air conditioning unit had an electrical issue. The malfunctioning air conditioning unit caused smoke in one classroom and a hall. There was no damage, other than the air conditioning unit, that will have to be replaced, and a few ceiling tiles. The building was inspected by fire fighters and school officials and is ready for the students when they come back to school on Tuesday.

The State of Georgia’s net tax collections during the month of September totaled nearly $3.3 billion, for an increase of $199.1 million or 6.4 percent compared to September 2022, when net tax collections totaled almost $3.1 billion for the month. $199.8 million of September’s tax revenue changes were the result of the reinstatement of the Motor Fuel Excise Tax. Excluding Motor Fuel Tax revenues and prior year related local sales tax distribution adjustments made in the current fiscal year, all other September net tax collections decreased by 3.2 percent, or $97.8 million compared to September 2022.
A forty-three-year-old Armuchee woman was arrested last week when reports said she committed a hit-and-run after committing money fraud.
