The website University HQ recently ranked the Associate of Science in Special Education at Georgia Highlands College (GHC) as one of the top 10 best online special education programs in the country.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson has announced that Georgia’s September unemployment rate increased to 3.4 percent, up one-tenth from a revised 3.3 percent in August. The unemployment rate was four-tenths lower than the national average.
A forty-eight-year-old man from Panama City Beach, Florida was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Tuesday of this week on charges from Cherokee County, Alabama. According to arrest records from the Floyd County Jail, Stephen Brent Cobb has an active warrant in Cherokee County on theft of property charges. He was jailed in Floyd County and was to be transported to Cherokee County on the outstanding warrant.
An accident on Highway 27 at the intersection of Gore-Subligna Road snarled traffic on Thursday evening. The Georgia State Patrol told WZQZ News that a Mercedes-Benz passenger van with nine occupants was traveling north on Highway 27 when a Cadillac SUV pulled out of Gore-Subligna Road and into the path of the van. Both the driver of the van and the driver of the SUV and a passenger in the van were transported to a Rome hospital with non-life threatening minor injuries. The accident report is not complete and will be released later by the Georgia State Patrol.

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Beersheba Presbyterian Church in Teloga last week. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, a church member showed the responding deputy where a lock had been removed from the church’s storage building. The church member told the deputy that someone had put water in the gas tank of the church’s zero turn lawn more on five separate occasions. Nothing appeared to be missing from the storage building, and the lock for the building was not located. The incident was turned over to an investigator with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Dickeyville Road address about an ongoing domestic incident. When they arrived on the scene and spoke to a woman at the residence, she told them that a man that lived there was extremely intoxicated and was going in and out of the house causing a disturbance. Deputies located the man inside a vehicle on the property and had to wake him up. The suspect told deputies that he had between 5-7 beers and that he had driven to a convenience store that night to get more beer. The man presented an ID from Guatemala and was identified as Tomas Ramirez Roldufo. Deputies arrested the suspect and charged him with DUI and driving without a license and transported him to the Chattooga County Jail.
In normal times, Chattooga County property owners would have already received their property tax bills in the mail and the bills would have come due around the first of December, but this year has been anything but normal for Chattooga County property taxes.
