Critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center now have additional access to clinical experts in Charlotte, N.C., through an audio/video connection in their rooms. The service is an enhancement to the already stellar service provided by the local team of experts in critical care medicine.

Numbers released on Wednesday from the Georgia Department of Public Health show that area-wide, COVID-19 cases are down in Northwest Georgia. In the latest report, there were four new COVID-19 cases reported in Chattooga County over the past week. Statewide, there were 1,372 new cases reported which was the lowest statewide total in the past three months.
The Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center teamed up with Chattooga Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, Helping Hands Ending Hunger, and Chattooga Chamber of Commerce to complete a housing needs assessment and survey of housing conditions, such as blight, disrepair and abandoned properties, along with a community health needs assessment.
The Georgia Department of Education is awarding a total of $200,000 to rural school districts to help them expand the fine arts opportunities available to students, the sixth round of such funding, State School Superintendent Richard Woods announced today.

A fifty-six-year-old man was arrested on drug possession charges after a traffic stop last week in Summerville. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed a vehicle pulling out of the the Circle K gas station lot that had a tag light out and dark tinted windows. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, but before the vehicle came to stop, the deputy noticed something thrown from the window. The deputy made contact with the driver and the other occupants of the vehicle and informed the driver of the reason for the stop. The driver was issued a citation for window tint. The deputy then asked all of the occupants about the bag of suspected crystal meth that was thrown into the highway. William Evan Ackley claimed that the drugs were his and was arrested on possession of methamphetamine charges. On the way to the jail, Ackley told the deputy that the drugs weren’t really his, but that the others in the vehicle said that they would “kill him” if he didn’t claim the drugs.
