Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is excited to announce the fifth live FIN FIT (Financially Fit) event on Thursday, November 9 at 8:30am-12:30pm located at the Georgia International Horse Park, The Carriage Room in Conyers, GA. This event is free and open to all Georgians. Continental breakfast is included for all attendees.
The Chiaha Harvest Fair will return to the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds in Rome next Saturday and Sunday, October 28th and 29th. Event hours are from 10 am to 5 pm both days.
As it appeared a merger between Atrium Health Floyd and the Harbin Clinic was near finalization, the Federal Trade Commission stepped in to take a closer look at the proposal.

High School football is back on the air tonight on WZQZ. After the cross-town border war between the two teams last week, Trion and Chattooga will turn their attention elsewhere with critical region games on the slate tonight. The Trion Bulldogs are fighting for a Region 6-A championship and their game tonight with the visiting Pepperell Dragons could not be any bigger. Trion and Pepperell come into the game tonight tied for first place in Region 6-A with identical region records of 3-0. Pepperell shook things up in the region last week with a huge 35-10 upset home win over the Darlington Tigers. Tonight’s game will not decide the region championship but the winner of tonight’s game will be squarely in the driver’s seat and have sole possession of first place in the region heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
The Chattooga Indians are looking to break a five game losing streak but have a tough assignment on the road this week at Dade County. The Wolverines have a deceiving record of 2-5 but they have played one of the toughest schedules in the area and played close games with Darlington and Trion. Dade County picked up their first region win last week on the road at Coosa 42-7.
The Trion vs Pepperell game will be broadcast on 99.1 FM and AM 1180. Both the Trion and Chattooga games will be broadcast live on the WZQZ Facebook page. Ben Groce and Jeremy Burke will call the action from Trion and Paul Cavin will call the action from Trenton. Tune in to the pregame show at 7pm with kickoff to follow at 7:30pm.
A thirty-year-old Summerville man was arrested last week after a domestic incident. According to a police report from the Summerville Police Department that was released yesterday, an officer was called to a domestic altercation taking place in the street on Scoggins Street. The officer found the couple in question and it appeared that both had milkshake spilled on them. After speaking with the couple, the officer learned that the two had been arguing and the woman attempted to leave. At that point, officers learned that the man grabbed the woman, causing the milkshake to spill on both of them. The man was attempting to keep the woman from leaving and at some point is said to have struck the woman in the back of the head with his hand. Police arrested Michael Tyler Hogue on simple battery charges and booked him into the Chattooga County Jail.
This weekend the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Train will be making two trips to Chattooga County – one on Saturday and another on Sunday. The City of Summerville will be hosting the Sequoyah Quilt Festival at the Summerville Depot on both Saturday and Sunday. There is no charge to attend the quilt festival. The steam trains are expected to arrive at the depot around 12:45 PM each day.
With the start of regular firearms deer season tomorrow, Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials are concerned about containing the spread of chronic wasting disease. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), a fatal disease affecting deer, has not been detected in Georgia and you can be instrumental in helping keep it out, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).
