A twenty-five-year-old man was arrested at the Summerville McDonald’s drive-thru on Sunday after he was found asleep in his vehicle, blocking other drive-thru customers. A deputy knocked on the driver’s window and woke the driver up who said he had been at a bar in Rome earlier had had drank several beers and “Jack and Coke”. After consenting to field sobriety tests, which he failed, the driver was then asked to do a breath test – which he also failed. Christian Tealer Teems was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and open container of alcohol and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is planning to build a connecter between U.S. Highway 27 and Georgia Highway 48 in Summerville. The new route is expected to ease traffic in the downtown Summerville area. According to the Dalton Daily Citizen, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) District 6 Engineer Grant Waldrop was on hand for a presentation at Dalton City Hall to give updates on several major infrastructure projects throughout Northwest Georgia. Speaking about the U.S. Highway 27 – GA 48 connector, Waldrop said, ” The project will connect from U.S. 27 over to State Route 48 and includes a new bridge over the Chattooga River”. Lined up for fiscal year ‘27, he said the estimated project budget is $22 million.
FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on Wednesday.
Rockdale County Sheriff’s Deputy Billy Burrell was looking forward to his friend and reserve deputy Walter Jenkins returning to the agency as a full-time deputy last year. The two had worked for years at College Park Police Department before joining the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office in January 2021 to start the agency’s Motorcycle Safety Unit.

A City of Summerville Water Department employee reported the theft of services at an address on Memorial Drive. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the city said that the theft of water has been an ongoing issue at 190 Memorial Drive in Summerville. The lock that had been placed on the water meter at the address had been damaged and there had been around 24,000 gallons of water used – totaling $446. The employee asked that a report be filed in connection with the theft.
A twenty-six-year-old man was arrested early on Sunday morning after he took a vehicle without permission. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Crystal Bates called for law enforcement after someone drove off in her vehicle from a house on Union Street. Bates told a responding deputy that she was at her aunt’s house on Union Street and saw headlights backing out of the driveway and then realized it was her vehicle leaving the premises. Ms. Bates said that she had not given anyone permission to use her vehicle and wanted to report the 2022 Toyota Tundra stolen. A short time later, a Summerville Police Officer spotted the vehicle sitting at CVS in Summerville. The Toyota Tundra was found to be in the possession of Steven Henry Brown. Brown was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of theft by taking.
