Moore’s Chances For A Special Session Are Virtually Zero

“Grandstanding” and “shameless fundraising efforts” are just a couple of the terms being used to describe State Senator Colton Moore’s call for a special session of the Georgia General Assembly “to include, without limitation, the review and response of the actions of Fani Willis”.  Willis is the Fulton County prosecutor that is leading the legal action against former President Donald Trump on charges that he tried to interfere with the 2020 General Election in Georgia.

Gaylesville Man Accused Of Stealing Trees In Georgia

A forty-six-year-old Gaylesville, Alabama man was arrested in Floyd County, Georgia and is accused of stealing around $20,000 worth of trees from several different businesses located around Rome back on June 12th.  According to police reports, Matthew Lewis Cook ripped the trees from the ground with his pickup truck.  The trees were later found on his property in Cherokee County, Alabama.  Cook and his wife, Sierra Denae Cook, age 27, have also been charged with shoplifting from Walmart in Rome.  Matthew Cook was being held on a $15,000 bond in the Floyd County Jail.

Deadline To Appeal Tax Assessments Is Today

With upwards of 2,000 property tax assessments appeals already received, more are expected today at the Chattooga County Tax Assessors Office.  Today is the deadline for property owners to appeal their tax assessments.  A form to appeal your property tax assessment can be downloaded HERE.  The appeal form must be turned in with all supporting documents before the end of the business day today.  The Chattooga County Tax Assessor’s office is open from 8:30 AM until 5 PM.

Missing Walker County Teen Found In Arizona

The FBI says that the investigation into how a Walker County teenager wound up in Arizona is ongoing.  Over the weekend, fourteen-year-old Graycie Millard was located safe in Arizona sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.  Millard had been missing from her LaFayette home since July 17th, according to local law enforcement.  The girl’s grandmother says that Millard said she was staying at a friend’s house and the friend’s did not realize that she was gone until the next morning.  It is unclear how Millard got to Arizona or why she was there.  The FBI says that they are not releasing any further information at this time.

White Coat Ceremony For GHC Health Science Students Held

Atrium Health Floyd and Georgia Highlands College (GHC) recently entered into a partnership to increase the number of health sciences student positions at the college and grow the number of nurses entering the workforce in Northwest Georgia. On Wednesday, August 16, the Atrium Health Floyd School of Health Sciences at Georgia Highlands College, along with community members, alumni and more, celebrated these health sciences students during a white coat ceremony and reception at Heritage Hall.

Blue Ribbon Entries For The Fair Being Accepted Starting Today

Starting today at 2 PM, blue ribbon entries will be accepted for the 2023 Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.  Today, from 2 PM until 6 PM, the blue ribbon department will be accepting art, photography, needle works and home food preservation for blue ribbon judging.  Those items will also be accepted from 9 AM until 1 PM on Tuesday.  You can find all the details on blue ribbon entries at www.chattoogafair.com .   Entries should be original work and should have been completed since August of 2022.  Entries will be accepted at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center on Middle School Drive in Summerville.  Residents of Chattooga, Floyd, Walker and Gordon Counties in Georgia and Cherokee and DeKalb Counties in Alabama can enter items for blue ribbon judging.

CHS Junior & Senior Essentials Night

A Junior & Senior Essential Night will be held this Wednesday at the Chattooga High School Cafeteria and is open to all CHS Juniors and Seniors to learn more about college planning, financial aid and have the opportunity to meet with college and military representatives.  Dalton State College, GNTC, Georgia Highlands College, Shorter, University, Jacksonville State University, and a variety of military branches will be in attendance.  Ben Meadows from Georgia Student Finance Commission will also be on hand to offer expert advise on financial aid.  The meeting gets underway at 5:30 PM.
