Historically, the number of drunk driving arrests increases in the month of August. In Chattooga County there has been an increase in the number of arrests being made by state and local law enforcement for driving under the influence over the past three weeks.

The Chattooga Chamber will be holding a public meeting Wednesday August 30th at 10a at the Chattooga Civic Center to present a branding campaign to market the entire county as a cultural and outdoor recreation destination. After the presentation the public is invited to view the display boards and offer their opinions through a brief survey form which will be available throughout the entire day, until 5:30 PM. The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair opens on Thursday of this week and entries for the Blue Ribbon Department continue to be accepted today at the Chattooga County Agricultural Building on Middle School drive, just off Highway 100 in Summerville.

A thirty-seven-year-old Chattooga Avenue, Lyerly woman was arrested over the weekend on charges of being a fugitive from justice. Caitlin Nicole Ward was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Saturday. In addition to the fugitive from justice charges, Ward was also charged with violating the terms of her probation. Ward was one of three Chattooga County residents arrested in June of 2021 on burglary and theft charges in Cherokee County, Alabama.

A twenty-six-year-old Floyd County woman turned herself in at the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend after being charged with vehicular homicide by the Georgia State Patrol.

A twenty-four-year-old Summerville man was arrested over the weekend after neighbors complained about him being outside in the early morning hours while he was drunk and disturbing the peace.

Qualifying for municipal elections is going on this week for municipal elections in Menlo, Summerville and Trion. Qualifying was held last week in Lyerly.
