Investigation Into NW Georgia Inmate’s Death

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the death of a Northwest Georgia jail inmate. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that sixty-two-year-old Cliff Woods, Jr. was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday of this past week.  Woods was being housed for Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Drugs not in the original container, and Felony Violation of Probation. Upon entering his cell, Officers found Mr. Woods on his bunk and were unable to wake him. Woods was taken to Polk Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigations has been called to investigate the in-custody death. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says that they are conducting a parallel investigation into the incident as well.

Chattooga HS Title One Meeting

Chattooga High School will host a Title I meeting coming up on Wednesday, August 22, 2023. The purpose of this meeting is to provide our Parents, Learning Coaches, and stakeholders with information about our Title I Program and your right to be involved in your child’s education. Schools receive Title I  funds based on poverty percentage and school population. These funds are utilized for the most academically at-risk students to support school efforts tied to challenging state academic standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. The purpose of this title is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.  The Chattooga High School Title I meeting will get underway at 5:30 PM and refreshments will be served.

Rome Braves Looking For New Name

While they will keep their affiliation with the Atlanta Braves, Rome’s minor-league baseball team is looking for a new name.  On Friday, the Rome Professional Baseball Club announced that they are looking for submissions from fans to rename the team.  The team stated, “For Braves fans, our long-standing affiliation with the Atlanta Braves will continue for years to come, however we want to create an identity that fans across the region can proudly claim and call their own”.  The announcement was met with mixed reviews by Rome Braves fans with some saying the team is trying to be politically correct and others suggesting that fans submit “Braves” as their choice for the name.  Fans will be able to submit their ideas for a name change until August 18, 2023.  You can see a press release below:
