Tax Assessment Appeal Workshop Today In Lyerly

The deadline to appeal your property tax assessments in Chattooga County is coming up on Monday, August 21, 2023.  There is a tax assessment appeal workshop going on today in Lyerly.  Chattooga County Concerned Citizens will have people on hand that can assist you in filling out the forms and answer questions about appealing your assessment.  The workshop is taking place from 10 AM until 2 PM at the Lyerly Community Center, located at 91 Alpine Street in Lyerly.

Windstream Kinetic Town Hall Meeting Next Week

Kinetic by Windstream will be hosting a Town Hall meeting in Chattooga County coming up on Tuesday, August 15th.  The meeting will be held at Chattooga high School and they will be addressing the State of Georgia’s Fiscal Recovery Fund that is providing for building more access to faster internet for underserved areas of the state.  The plan covers 18 counties, including Chattooga County, in Georgia.  Experts will be on hand to address funding and answer questions from the public.

Woman Arrested On Drug Charges

According to a report recently released by the Summerville Police Department, a thirty-four-year-old woman was arrested on drug charges after an officer responded to a call shortly after midnight on Thursday of last week.  The woman was seen near the intersection of Marvin Avenue and Ramey Street “acting strange”.  When officers approached the woman, they could tell she was under the influence of some kind of drug.  A glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine was found near where the woman’s possessions were on the ground.  The woman denied that the glass pipe was hers.  Emily Broome was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug related objects.

Governor, First Lady Celebrate Georgia Artists With ‘Art of Georgia’ Exhibition

The Office of the Governor, in conjunction with the Georgia Council for the Arts, today announced the chosen entries for “The Art of Georgia IV: Landscapes” exhibit. The exhibit, which will showcase current work of contemporary Georgia visual artists, will be on display in the executive offices of the State Capitol and the Ballroom of the Governor’s Mansion.

2023 Twisted Ankle Race Next Month

The 2023 Twisted Ankle Trail Races will take place at Sloppy Floyd State Park on September 9th. Several distance options include a 5K (3.1 miles), 10 mile, and a Half Marathon (13.1 miles). This is a great event for beginner runners all the way to the seasoned runner. Since the race began in 2005, 100% of the proceeds stay at Sloppy Floyd State Park. Participants are encouraged to sign up before August 31 to be guaranteed a shirt. High School Football Starts With Scrimmage Games Tonight

High school football scrimmages will be taking place this evening as football fans anticipate the beginning of the regular season next Friday evening.  Tonight, the Trion Bulldogs will be hosting Adairsville in a scrimmage match up and Chattooga will be on the road for a scrimmage with Ridgeland in northern Walker County.  Next week, WZQZ will begin our regular season broadcasts and will have both teams games live on our Facebook Page and will alternate between Trion and Chattooga on the radio.  Tonight, Ben Groce and Jeremy Burke will begin their 16th season broadcasting Trion Bulldog Football on WZQZ with the scrimmage between Trion and Adairsville on the radio and Facebook.

Tourism To Be Discussed At Next Chamber Meeting

Tourism will be the topic of the next Chattooga County Chamber meeting.  According to the Chamber, “Chattooga County has seen some changes…new attractions, things to do, and places to stay.
