Woman Reports Theft Of Pocketbook

On Tuesday of this week, a woman working in the dairy aisle at Ingles in Summerville reported the theft of her pocketbook and an Apple watch.  When police responded to the store, the woman was able to “ping” the watch to a an address on Goodwin Drive.  Officers went to the Goodwin Drive address where the residents agreed to allow the police to search their residence.  Neither of the stolen items were found.  The residents on Goodwin Drive told police that they had not left their house all day.  The case was turned over to an investigator.

Lyerly Farmers Market Wins Farmers Market Grant

The Lyerly Farmers Market is the newest market chosen as a winner for the AgGeorgia Farm Credit Farmers Market Grant.  The Lyerly Farmers Market opened in June of this year and is held at Angus McLeod Park in Lyerly on Saturdays.  They are open from 8 AM until Noon and is run by two local farm families who volunteer 100% of their time.  “As our world turns more and more to technology and outside influences, our goal is to have families turn back to their roots, to this gorgeous heritage and land that we are blessed to be part of,” says Market Manager, Crystal Groce. “We also want to provide opportunities for families to become healthier, both financially and physically.” Check out the Lyerly Farmers Market Facebook Page HERE for more information.

Summerville First Baptist Celebrating 175th Anniversary

First Baptist Church in Summerville will be celebrating their 175th Anniversary with a Homecoming Service on August 20th.  The church was founded in 1848 and was originally known as Damascus before changing to Summerville Baptist Church and later, Summerville First Baptist Church.  According to a short church history, penned by former pastor Rev. Jack Colwell, “The Summerville First Baptist Church has been from its beginning a fully cooperating Southern Baptist Church, and has supported the work of its denomination on the associational, state, national, and worldwide levels”.  The church will celebrate with a Stamps-Baxter singing at 10:30 AM on August 20th and special speaker W. Armuchee Women Charged With Forcing Child To Smoke THC Vape Pen

Two Armuchee women are facing charges for allegedly forcing a seven-year-old child to eat a THC gummy and smoke a THC vape pen despite the victim stating “she did not want to do it and did not like the way it made her feel,” reports state.

GNTC Foundation Awards Chattooga Alumni Scholarships

The Foundation at Georgia Northwestern Technical College awarded 43 scholarships totaling more than $30,000 to 40 graduating high school seniors in the college’s service area. Recipients of the Chattooga Alumni Scholarship are Abbie Boyd, Haley Kirk, Danika Lee, Brooklyn McDaniel and Sarah Millican; all attended Chattooga County High School.  Sharon Vasquez of Trion High School was also awarded a scholarship. Governor Announces State Broke Economic Development Records For Third Straight Year

Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), announced on Tuesday of this week,  that for the third year in a row the state broke records for economic development during Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23). Between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023, total investments in facility expansions and new locations totaled more than $24 billion, resulting in 38,400 new jobs through 426 projects supported by GDEcD’s Global Commerce team. When excluding the two largest projects in state history – Rivian and Hyundai Motor Group – from the previous year’s job creation figures, total jobs as a result of FY23 projects exceeded the previous record by more than 2,800 new positions. Annual investment totals have also increased by 131 percent over the last three years.

D&S Produce And Mercantile Receives Grant From AgGeorgia Farm Credit

In celebration of #NationalFarmersMarketWeek, AgGeorgia Farm Credit announce the first winner of their 2023 Farmers Market Grants. Update On Adairsville Officer Involved Shooting

The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Adairsville, GA. The Adairsville Police Department requested the GBI conduct an independent investigation. One man was shot and is in critical condition. No officers were injured.
