


The 2023-2024 school year is officially underway for most local students. It is a great time for kids to get involved with Cub Scouts. That’s according to Eric Vaughn, Vice President of Marketing for the Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Summerville Police were called to a domestic incident shortly after midnight on Sunday on Crowe Street. Police talked with a man and woman who denied that a physical altercation had taken place, despite the fact that both of them were showing signs of having been in a scuffle.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to investigate an officer involved shooting that happened around 2 PM on Tuesday afternoon in Adairsville that involved Adairsville Police. Reports indicate that a chase involving a pickup truck ended when the driver of the truck crashed into a cement truck and then began firing a gun at law enforcement. Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Adairsville Police and state law enforcement were all in the area of the crash on Highway 140 east of Adairsville late into Tuesday evening. There was no immediate word from law enforcement regarding the condition of the driver. Neither the GBI, nor local law enforcement have released any details beyond saying the GBI is investigating the officer involved shooting.

A Calhoun man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly ran down a pedestrian and fled the scene and then crashed into a tractor-trailer. The following report is from the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office:

Two Chattooga County men were arrested in Floyd County this week in connection with a home burglary back in July. According to reports, thirty-eight-year-old Luke Cody Campbell of Summerville and thirty-eight-year-old Jeffery Neal Camerson of Trion are accused of breaking into a home on Old Dalton Road in Floyd County and stealing liquid morphine. The incident happened on July 19th. Both men are charged with first-degree burglary and theft by taking along with possession of a controlled substance.

UGA Extension Walker County will host a summer forage pest update on August 16, 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Walker County Ag. Center, 10052 Hwy. 27 N, Rock Spring, GA. One hour of private pesticide credit, commercial credit in category 21 and 22 will be offered. Recently isolated cases of armyworm activity have been reported through the state along with bermudagrass stem maggot. This will be a great opportunity for updates on management of these insects and pests. The Menlo PTO will be holding a meeting next week, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Lawrence Center for additional parking due to ongoing construction at Menlo Elementary School. The Lawrence Center is located at 71 Edison Street in Menlo. The Menlo PTO will be looking to fill the office of secretary. Anyone interested in the position is asked to contact Susan Howard. Also at the meeting, Title I budget and the ongoing construction at Menlo Elementary School will be discussed. All parent and guardians of Menlo Elementary School students are encouraged to attend.

A twenty-six-year-old Cedar Bluff, Alabama man was arrested on criminal trespass charges last week in Summerville. Summerville Police say that earlier in the day on August 1st, they had written a citation to Christopher Chapman and warned him not to go back to an Oak Street address. Chapman was originally charged with disorderly conduct after an altercation at the address. Later that same day, police received another complaint about Chapman, saying he had returned and gotten into an altercation. Chapman was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of criminal trespass because he was warned earlier the same day about returning to the Oak Street Address.
