Chattooga Registrars: “Check Your Voter Registration”

The State of Georgia is removing voters from the rolls who have been deemed “inactive” and the Chattooga County Registrars Office says that notices were mailed late last month that notify voters who are considered “inactive”.  Those would be voters who did not vote in the last two General Election cycles in 2020 and 2022.

Fatal Wreck On Saturday Evening In Chattooga County

The Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome says that a Bowdon, Georgia man lost his life in an accident on Highway 27 in Chattooga County on Saturday evening. The accident is still under investigation.  The following is a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol:

On Saturday, August 6, 2023, at 5:24 pm, Troopers from Post 38 Rome responded to a two-vehicle crash on GA 1 at Marble Springs Road, in Chattooga County.  A 2001 Chevrolet S10 truck was traveling south on GA 1 when a 2017 Toyota RAV 4 entered GA 1 from Marble Springs Road, striking the Chevrolet truck.  The driver of the Chevrolet S10, Mr. Jerry Wayne Browning of Bowdon, Georgia, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The Georgia State Patrol Troop A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.

Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry continues to address the frustration by Chattooga County property owners over increased property assessments by taking to social media.  The commissioner has not held or attended a public meeting about the issue.

SongFarmers Of Summerville Announce Venue Change

The SongFarmers of Summerville are a group that gathers monthly to pic and sing and invites the public to attend and participate.  The group has announced a change to their location and time for the monthly events.  The SongFarmers of Summerville will now be meeting on the SECOND Saturday of each month from 1 PM until 4 PM.  The meetings will be held at the Summerville Recreation Department from August to October.  The SongFarmers of Summerville say this will allow attendees to be inside the air-conditioned building during the hot months. The Summerville Recreation Department is located at 220 Highway 100 (Bolling Road) in Summerville.

 

DFCS Releases Final Round Of P-EBT Benefits

The Georgia Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Division of Family & Children Services has issued a final round of P-EBT benefits to SNAP-enrolled children ages 0-5 and those 5 years of age who turned 6 during the covered period of January-May 11, 2023. To be eligible, children had to be receiving SNAP benefits during these months.
