Accident Saturday Evening On Highway 27

An accident on Saturday evening snarled traffic and caused motorists to be rerouted around the scene on Highway 27 in the area of Marble Springs Road.  Early reports indicated that at least two vehicles were involved.  Multiple emergency vehicles were on the scene and there were reports that one or more people had to be extricated from the wreckage.  The Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome worked the accident, which happened shortly before 6 PM.  WZQZ News will have more information on the accident when a preliminary report is released by state troopers.

Trion Man Charged With Shoplifting

A thirty-nine-year-old Trion man has been charged with shoplifting over $600 worth of goods from Walmart in Trion.  Joshua Laing Simer, who was previously banned from Wal-Mart in Trion for shoplifting, is accused of stealing ten items by walking past all points of sale without paying for them in June of this year.  He was accused of shoplifting in March as well.  Simer was booked into the Chattooga County Jail and will be facing charges in Chattooga County Magistrate Court.

Chattooga Fair Coming Later This Month

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair is happening August 24th-27th at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center on Hwy 100. Livestock shows and blue ribbon displays daily under the Pavilion. Enjoy thrilling rides and check out the new attractions including a petting zoo, rock climbing wall and mechanical bull. Enjoy great nightly entertainment on the Smith Iron Works Stage followed by a Laser Light Show at dark. Thursday Night will be free for all Students sponsored by the City of Summerville and Sunday will be free admission for everyone sponsored by the Town of Trion. Uptick In Phone Scams Reported In Neighboring Cherokee County, AL

Neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office reports that in recent days they’ve seen an “uptick” in the number of area phone scams. Scam artists are calling residents from spoofed phone numbers that can show up as local numbers to our area.  The scammers are identifying themselves as bondsman and are demanding money to pay bonds for failing to appear in court on civil subpoenas.

Friends Of Sloppy Floyd Selling Ice Cream Today

The Friends of Sloppy Floyd will be selling homemade ice cream this today from 11 AM until 2 PM. Bring your family and friends out to the park, and stop by to get your favorite flavor of homemade goodness. We will have vanilla, chocolate, peach, cherry, butter pecan, strawberry, peanut butter chocolate chip, and orange sherbet. $2 per cup.  All proceeds will go to help the many worthwhile projects the Friends of Sloppy Floyd do at our local state park.

Statewide Uptick In COVID-19 Cases Being Monitored

Yesterday, WZQZ News reported that state health officials are monitoring the uptick in COVID-19 cases in Northwest Georgia.  Dr. Gary Vocio with the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health says that it is too soon to say if the uptick could be considered a “trend”.  The increase in cases is being seen statewide.
