Tax Sale Held Tuesday

A tax sale was held on the steps of the Chattooga County Courthouse in Summerville.  Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton said that there were 209 properties slated for yesterday’s tax sale.  There was $72,335.20 in outstanding taxes due.  Of those, only ten were taken to the sale on Tuesday representing $16,155.35 in delinquent taxes and fees.  All of the properties sold yesterday were vacant or abandoned.  The mobile home listed was sold to the current occupant in order to obtain a title.  Hampton said that there is now $53,919.64 left to be collected for taxes owed for 2021.

Former Long John Silvers Building Sells On Courthouse Steps

The former Long John Silvers building on Commerce Street in Summerville sold on the courthouse steps on Tuesday morning.  The property was one of the many properties sold for delinquent taxes.  According to the Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s Office, there were $8,541.68 in back taxes due on the property.  The building and .88 acres sold for $110,000 and was purchased by T&W Enterprises – a real estate development company headquartered on Broad Street in Rome.

Overturned Dump Truck Shuts Down Highway 48 On Monday Afternoon
